Individual craftsmanship on elevated decks offers perfect river views from each and every chalet. Made out of reed, each chalet has an en-suite bathroom fit for a king, and a large bedroom, and some even have their own lounges. Each private deck can comfortably fit a party of ten, but it’s really just for two – amazing.

The staff that looks after your daily needs has been actively involved in the building of this brand new lodge, which is one of very few at this level of hospitality that can honestly claim to be a community-based project.

Sleeping only 16 guests in eight en-suite chalets, the lodge’s spacious cabins are built out of reeds, on top of an elevated wooden platform, so as to make one feel part of the natural surroundings, yet position you high enough to enjoy a splendid view of the river. Watch hippos and crocodiles from your own private balcony, as well as fish eagles swooping down onto their prey.

The highly trained chef and kitchen staff will serve you a wonderful array of delectable meals, to be enjoyed on a wooden deck overlooking the river. Dinner is served on the locally made and intricately carved wooden dining table – in fact, all the furniture at the lodge has been hand-crafted by members of the local community. Freshly caught fish is the Zambelozi specialty – a true taste sensation in this magical and tranquil island setting.
