The Victoria Falls waterfalls are situated in southern Africa on the border of Zambia and Zimbabwe, and occur where the powerful Zambezi River plunges down a series of basalt gorges in a breathtaking display. The local Kololo tribe calls these falls Mosi-oa-Tunya (the smoke that thunders). When the river is in flood, the falls are the largest curtain of falling water in the world and the spray from the thundering water is partly responsible for sustaining the rainforest opposite the falls.
The town of Livingstone – the first European settlement at Victoria Falls – lies ten kilometres from the falls themselves, and is home to many companies offering adventure activities on the Zambezi River and around the falls. It can be hot and humid during the summer months from October to March, but the park is open throughout the year.

The lodge is perched on the riverbank, and guests are treated to breathtaking views that set the tone for the holiday of a lifetime. ‘Walking with Lions' is one of the many wildlife rehabilitation programmes in which Thorntree is involved.
