The Moremi Game Reserve and its surrounding area are often the focal points for many safaris in the Okavango delta. Habitats from both the permanently and seasonally flooded zones are found, and the full spectrum of this region’s game and bird life can be seen.
It reserve covers approximately 4 900km2 of grassy floodplains in the northeastern corner of the Okavango delta. Other than savanna, the terrain includes winding waterways with banks of reeds, palm-covered islands, thick mopani and acacia forests, and lush, lily-covered lagoons in which hippos bathe and sport.
The long, dry winter lasts from May to December and the heaviest rainfall occurs from December to February. August to November are considered optimal months to visit Moremi, although the period from March to July offers good game viewing and fewer people.
